Agrotourism

Agro tourism (also called agri tourism or farm tourism) is  a form of tourism in which visitors spend their holidays on farms /agricultural areas.  They may or may not participate in the farming activities, but get an opportunity to observe farm life closely.

In most developed countries, a majority of  the population lives in urban areas and most children grow up without an idea of how their food is produced. Agro tourism  helps them get acquainted with agricultural crops, trees and farm animals like cattle, sheep, goat.  Pollution levels in cities are high, so spending time in the farm also has health benefits.

For most farmers who host agricultural tourists, the boarding and lodging fee is supplemental income. They also may get assistance in various farm activities. Due to international trade, the price of  farm produce in some areas is not competitive, so governments in certain countries are encouraging agro tourism as an alternate source of  income for rural communities.
